At Formula, our objective is to build the most reliable, easy to use, high performance disk brakes. To improve the results achieved with our first hydraulic disk brakes (which won many World Championships), Formula constantly updates the design and the materials of its disk brakes. To help meet our objectives, Formula has invested in new machinery and testing equipment, which has allowed us to create revolutionary procedures to test every single component of disk brakes.
Formula’s “Testing Department” is the hard core of the company. Every new model is checked during its development and tried out by the “Testing Department”. At the same time random sample tests are carried out on the products before they leave the factory, while 100% of the production is checked to test the endurance of the system at high pressure.
The testing machinery has been developed by the “Testing Department”. The main piece of machinery of the “Testing Department” is the test stand which is able to accurately simulate a descent, reporting the meaningful data elements (speed, temperature of the disk and the pads, pressure on the lever, travel of the lever, etc.). The test stand is also used to carry out endurance tests for fatigue and breakage.
The test stand is connected to a data storage system that can be also mounted onto a bike to test the brakes outdoors; this system provides the same test data as the test stand, allowing them to be collected directly on the race field.
Also, many solutions are found thanks to our testers that mount Formula prototypes on their bikes to test them for kilometers, and thanks to our sponsored teams that test every evolution of Formula disk brakes on the race field.
